Carniny Amateurs made the long trip to Enniskillen last weekend for the first round of the Junior Cup, but despite a much improved performance from their league start, came away with nothing. With a squad that saw no less than five changes from the previous week’s starting line up, the Amateurs started brightly and there was little between the two teams in the first half. Juraj Malik in the Carniny goal made a few important stops in the half and Carniny saw a Dean Surgenor long range lob over the keeper rebound off the cross bar, 0-0 at half time.
It was the home side who took the lead 6 mins from the restart with an impressive goal from their number 10 after possession was lost on the left wing. This boosted the home side as they began to put Carniny under pressure, with some super goalkeeping from Juraj Malik, but it wasn’t until Carniny threw caution to the wind that they scored their second on 80 mins and another a couple of minutes before the final whistle. A harsh score for the Ballymena men but it was the Fermanagh men who went into the hat for the next round.
