Carniny turned in a brilliant performance to take all three points and inflict a first league defeat on Saints.
Three minutes in Carniny took the lead when Dean Wright beat the offside trap before being forced wide but his centre was brilliantly controlled by Anthony Greer before he found the bottom corner with a brilliant volley. This rocked Saints as they struggled to gain any real control of the game with Carniny battling hard to ensure they maintained their lead. As the half wore on Saints started to peg Carniny back with Philip Lynn heading wide when well placed and then just before the break Ross McKillop dived at full length to push a Cormac McConnell shot round the post.
The second half again saw Saints camped in the Carniny half but they never fully had control of the game with attacks breaking down and Carniny looking dangerous on the break. The best chance of an equaliser for Saints came when Lloyd White who missed nothing the whole game failed to stop a Barry Hamill cross finding Philip Lynn but Ross McKillop bravely saved the effort to keep his side in front and then from the resulting corner David Leetch headed home but this was ruled out for a foul on the keeper. Carniny weathered this pressure from Saints and moved two goals in front soon after when Dean Wright fed the ball wide for Aaron Johnston and he played the ball into substitute Matthew McComb whose effort took a deflection and snuck in at the near post. Philip Lynn spurned a chance to give Saints a lifeline in the last 15 minutes when he was left clear and when trying to round the keeper McKillop nicked the ball away and the chance was gone. With Saints pushing for some sort of consolation in the game in injury time they were picked off with a third goal. Matthew McComb blocked down a Barry Hamill shot and drove forward into the Saints half before crossing for Dean Wright who stretched for the ball and knocked it into the far corner to cap a great win for his side.
